Welcome

APRIL 18-24, 2010 - NATIONAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEK - Thank you for making it all happen!

Our mission is to train volunteers to provide educational programs and services that improve reading, writing and related literacy skills, and to empower adults by enhancing their life skills in the areas of family, work, health, and community.

Readers and Books

Volunteer tutors commit to meeting an adult learner for about two hours a week for at least a year. We provide training, placement management, and on-going support.

Our purpose is to provide free, confidential, student-centered individual and small group tutoring services to local residents who need help reading, writing, or speaking English.

Our objective is that the adults who come to us for assistance will be able to function independently in life situations requiring average literacy skills.

LV - Greater Portland was established in 1973, and is a nationally accredited member of ProLiteracy America (formerly Literacy Volunteers of America).
